MIAMI UNIVERSITY
Interactive Athletic Hall of Fame
Empire Digital Signs Project
THE OBJECTIVE
Our client was looking for a new approach to showcase their celebrated coaches and players. With a newly renovated space on campus, it felt right to introduce a futuristic way of displaying this type of content. They needed their All Americans, Cradle of Coaches, and Championship Teams to be properly highlighted in a way that was archiving friendly in the digital age.
TOUCH HALL OF FAME
This popular product is one of my favorites to make. We work with schools and colleges to digitize their plaques that have overgrown the walls. It frees up the space completely and provides other opportunities for display. This technological archiving gives clients more opportunities to highlight their alumni, students, and staff. They aren’t restricted to just athletic programs, but can be more academic if preferred or artistically focused. Often these systems are framed with a decorative border that I also design as an eye-catching, protective container.
WAYS TO DISPLAY
This system was going to need to be on a free-standing kiosk instead of our usual wall mounted projects. It needed to be ADA compliant in terms of size and content interaction as well. The pedestal kiosk chosen was going to include a vinyl wrap as well. This would help it stand out and tie in with the athletic department's branding.
I created 3 concepts based off of notes from a prior meeting to seek the best approach in this endeavor. They ended up choosing my 2nd concept with little critique. It didn't overuse patterns from their branding kit, it proudly displayed their official university logo, and was an all red color instead of exploring bi-color design options.
USER INTERFACE DESIGN CHOICES
Each page had their own spin on how to approach the content designated in them. For All Americans, the page had cards that could swipe through with a brief description, name, and year placed around the individual's photo. The Cradle of Coaches used a similar setup, but had a third of its space given to an informational zone that educates the user on the topic. It adds more significance to the page’s topic by being designed with a modern plaque-inspired look.
